The department of health and human services announced today the removal of black box warnings on many of the treatments used for persons who are going through perimenopause and menopause.
The press conference aired through the United States Health and Human Services Department’s YouTube channel on November 10, 2025. The link is shared below. Experts in the field of menopause and urology amongst leaders from the department of health and human services discussed the use of HRT as generally considered safe*. The now removed black box warnings that have been part of HRT treatments, previously warned of: elevated diagnosis of dementia, breast cancer, increased risk of blood clots, and a many other concerning side effects. It is now known that years of cited medical research with which experts have used to perpetuate these strict warnings, have been reviewed and proved no such concerns.
Physicians speaking during the press conference stated that around 30% of women refuse to use the medication’s offered to them, even knowing the treatment would reduce or eliminate their problems, because of these warnings. Urologists have known that vaginal estrogen is considered safe enough to be used throughout a woman’s life. Women who are menopausal often suffer many years with vaginal dryness, painful intercourse and the reoccurrence of urinary track infections or UTIs. With the black box warning removal more women will feel safer utilizing vaginal estrogen treatments, reducing their problems and UTI infections, which historically and tragically have a tendency to shorten lives.
Surgeons and oncologist have also been misinformed, causing women to stop certain vaginal HRT therapy during treatment of cancers, and pre and post surgical procedures. The new studies have found these practices are now contraindicated and should not be continued. It’s now known that continuing HRT vaginal estrogen medication treatments will actually assist in a woman’s ability to thwart UTIs, blood clot formation and other issues during these procedures.
This new information appears to be marking the future of study to benefit women, representing over 50% of the population. Even though this is a good sign, we can note that it is very late in coming, however we will remain optimistic for future breakthroughs. Doctors will hopefully take on these new guidelines and see women as not complaining but humans in need of care. Perhaps the best gift is that now women can share with their daughters that there could possibly be hope for the future. Something most women never thought they would see in their lifetimes.
As mentioned in the press conference where men have always been the focus of care and concern, women have historically been ignored and told that it’s just an emotional thing. Hopefully with this dawning of change and embracing medication’s along with proving these medication’s are a safe alternative, we will now see that women will be heard.
To this information that has come down the pike I must say, brava!
