Think Sarah! Allow me to Introduce Myself

Welcome!

It’s always difficult when someone asks us exactly what defines us. Do you mention age (a lady never tells!), gender, your marital status, or whether or not you have offspring? Do you talk first about your education or the title that you carry? Do you discuss your current employment, or jobs you’ve had in the past that might define you as person in your own eyes? What is the best way to define oneself?

When writing, my practice is to share the facts on a subject and give further opportunities to dive deeper into a topic. I do my best to abridge personal thoughts on topics in a professional manner and remove “me” from the information. However, this being my introduction, please allow me to share a bit about myself.

Going down through the above questionnaire, I will begin with this; my name is Sarah and I am a licensed nursing home administrator who has a bachelors in healthcare administration. I have worked in many different fields stemming from being an administrator of a home for the aged (which is a step down form of care from a nursing home), working for the local ombudsman (an agency who works to ensure best practices in long-term care facilities), starting up a large adult foster care from construction to ready to open, a professional speaker and mistress of ceremonies (M. C.). I have over 20 years of volunteer experience helping the aging industry. I am also a mother of two amazing children and am blessed to be with a very supportive spouse.

The lion share of my life’s work focuses on persons 50 years old and older. My articles, presentations and blog posts provide information on senior care, family concerns, along with caregiver and employee empowerment. Over the years of employment and volunteerism, those compounded experiences furnished me with a unique, well-rounded perspective. That perspective gave me a better understanding of the plight of the senior, the concerns and frustrations of families, and the needs of caregivers and employees in long-term care facilities.

So what can I offer you, gentle reader? Having so many different viewpoints pertaining to caring for a senior, I possess a frame of reference that will enhance each individual and industry affected by the act of aging. I admit there is always more to learn and encourage constructive feedback from my readers to assist in my growth on this important topic.

We will all age one day, it is inevitable. Aging starts from the minute we are born and from that point on our earthly body undergoes changes that largely run a certain path. However, it is important to respect that not all observe aging the same and each individual’s perspective should be honored. Through open communication, the life situations and changes that people endure will reduce the mystery of what is to come.

With over 25 years of working with those 50 years old and older, the impact of individuals who have crossed my path has lead me on this journey to help those of us moving into these phases of life. Thank you for coming along. I am excited for this endeavor and pray it will serve as a help to others.

Blessings,

Sarah D
